The Fig Branch Stained Glass Panel

The first (and maybe only) fresh fig I’ve ever eaten came off of a tree in a greenhouse on a farm just outside Carbondale, Colorado. I took a picture of that tree at golden hour, with the light coming through the greenhouse glowing a bright yellow. That yellow inspired the background of this panel, where the fig branch sits in a vase behind a teal rope, like something on display in a museum.

The panel is 14 by 11 inches, cut mostly from Bullseye glass sheets. I picked glass that changes drastically with the light. When the sun comes through, the leaves and fruit glow. In dimmer light the branch settles back into the shadows, with the opaque glass glowing brightly around it, and it almost looks like a different piece.

It went home with a collector in 2023, but I painted the same fig branch in watercolor. That painting is available as a framed art print. You can see more of my work on the stained glass panels page.

New panels go to my email list first. If you’d like to see the next one before anyone else, join the list.
