The Fig Branch Watercolor Painting

After I made the Fig Branch stained glass panel, I painted the same branch again in watercolor.

It comes from a fig tree in a greenhouse on a farm just outside Carbondale, Colorado, where I ate my first fresh fig. In glass, the light through that greenhouse turned into a bright yellow background. In watercolor it gets softer, and the edges of the leaves and fruit are allowed to blur.

The panel was one of a kind and went home with a collector. Painting it meant more people could have the branch too. The original watercolor is still with me, and it is available as a framed art print.

New work goes to my email list first. If you'd like to see the next piece before anyone else, join the list.
